Newsletter — June 2025
Hi Dancing Friends-
We are really hoping that the May showers on Saturdays are over and that we will enjoy the beautiful June blooms. Thanks to each of you for coming to our May dance in spite of the forecast.
Our Foxtrot lesson by Dana Vonn was outstanding, and many were able to practice the steps she taught during their dancing. Thanks also to the Burks Works Quintet for playing for us for the very first time. They were very willing to transition from their regular style of playing to dance tempo music, and we appreciate their efforts.
We are all so fortunate to have such talented, willing board members. Another new member this year is Merlyn Monteiro, Dance Host Coordinator. Merlyn was born in Mombasa, Kenya, next door to the person who would one day become her husband, Mario.
Merlyn and her family moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma, when she was 15-years old, determined to achieve the American dream. Graduating from Oklahoma State University with degrees in pharmacy and chemistry, Merlyn worked initially as a retail pharmacist and was later promoted to pharmacy leadership where she remained for 44 years. Merlyn believes in serving her community and has volunteered as a Dallas Suicide and Crisis Counselor and PTA President among other things. She and husband Mario decided to take dance lessons so they could dance at weddings and parties. When asked about why she became involved with the BDD Board, Merlyn responded that she saw a need and volunteered. Needless to say, we are so glad she did.
Remember to mark you calendar for June 21 for our Beach Ball Dance featuring Dave Tanner along with an energetic lesson by Margaret Kochan on the Carolina Shag. You don't want to miss out on this because it's going to be a 🏐.
See you there—
Linda
